Perhaps You Haven't Noticed (May 24, 2019)

Perhaps you haven’t noticed but I am doing better. The days filled with tear stained shirts and bloodshot eyes have ceased. The aching pain no longer stabs me when I see you. I have found someone else. Someone who cares for me and makes me smile. A genuine smile that hasn’t surfaced since you went away.
Perhaps you don’t see me; perhaps you do and you ignore me like you always did. But I see you. I am no longer blind to the hatred that slithers through your teeth, the jealousy coursing through your veins. I now can see all the pain you cause and the wreckage left behind.
I also see me. I see the love and happiness flowing in every direction. I see the girl you crushed rising from the ashes – a phoenix burning bright. I see everything you didn’t want me to be and I call it beautiful. Perhaps you haven’t noticed but without you I have become the best me I can be. And I’m damn proud

When You Get to be My Age (May 24, 2019)

When you get to be my age you realize that everything happens for a reason. The person walking down the road towards you, the person sitting on the bus next to you, the terrible fall you had at age ten that put you in a cast; everything has a purpose and everything is meant to be. There are no mistakes or mishaps. God put you, your neighbor, and even their dog in this world for a reason. Appreciate everything and take joy in everything. When you wake up to birds chirping, listen. When the sun is setting over the horizon, watch. When it is nine pm but there is ice cream that you want, eat it. Don’t wait for a special occasion; make today, this minute, a special occasion. Make today the day you start living. Don’t wait for the rain to stop, or for your kids to move away. Don’t wait for a good time, because when you get to be my age, you realize that the time is up and you didn’t live.

I wonder have you ever thought about a tree? the roots that travel deep into the dirt holding secrets  the trunk that stands firm keeping it safe when the wind tries to blow it down the branches and leaves that sway free  unbothered making it beautiful  making it unique making it special  have you ever thought about a tree? the hundreds of years of pain peace  persistence  everything it’s overcoming everything it overcame you might have thought about a tree but I wonder have you ever thought about me?
